Consumers are the biggest food wasters -
more than grocery stores and restaurants.
Join the effort to waste less food!
By accepting this challenge, you’re making a personal commitment to reducing wasted food in your own home, school, or workplace. Small, simple, collective steps work to:
-
Prevent waste and help you make the most of the food (and food budget) you have
-
Curb greenhouse gas emissions from food by ensuring good food stays out of the local landfill
-
Encourage systems change, inspiring others to take notice and take action on curbing the food we waste.
Because as we say at ASG - Feeding not Wasting!
Commit to One or More Ways to Reducing Food Waste
Eating my/our leftovers, either as-is or in new/creative ways.
Freezing (or otherwise storing) good food to prevent it from going bad before I/we have the chance to eat it. (Because when you think about it, only leaf lettuce and cucumbers are not best frozen. But, EVERYTHING else is! Yes, everything.)
Rethinking food date labels; not tossing items simply because the date on its label has passed.
Creating a flexible meal-planning routine, so I/we don’t risk wasting food when plans change.
Monitoring my/our kitchen for items at-risk of going bad and prioritizing eating them before they do.
Spreading awareness about the issues with food waste and its impact on people and the planet.
Encouraging other people to take this challenge!
